On my Atlantic City trip yesterday, I also visited the Garden State Beer Company, which is on the White Horse Pike just off the Parkway exit 40. So it’s a convenient stop when you’re going in or out of AC.
I was impressed by the size of the tasting room, which is huge, maybe one of the largest I’ve seen at a New Jersey microbrewery. The bar is big and welcoming, and they also have some party games into one corner.
So here are the beers I tested during my October 2018 visit:
“GOLD”en Ale: It’s a light 5.4% ale with some lager flavors. It’s so named because it won a Best of the Press gold award.
- Absecon Bay IPA: West-coast style session IPA, light and easy at 5%, perfect after a day at the beach.
- Nor’Easter East Coast IPA: This was my favorite from the brewery. It’s a full-bodied beer with very nice tropical fruit aromas. Therefore, I think these flavors still make it a great hot summer day brew, despite its 7% ABV.
- Nucky’s Empirial IPA: At 9.1%, it’s very very hoppy, with a bitter but complex taste. The citrus and pines flavors though make it quite easy to drink.
I was a bit disappointed they offered no cans or crowlers to take out. But I still liked this brewery and I gotta get back and try some of the other offerings which included a pumpkin ale, an Oktoberfest brew, wheat beers, a porter and more.
