Will Morey continued his aggressive 2013 member parks and attractions visit “around the world in 100 days” campaign, when he traveled to the 2013 IAAPA Asian Attraction Expo at the Sands Expo and Convention Center Marina Bay in Singapore. As chairman of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, Morey represents the industry’s leading trade association with more than 4,500 facility, supplier and individual members from 97 countries.
Morey kicked off the event during the expo’s opening ceremonies with more than 5,000 industry professionals from 60+ countries in attendance for a four day schedule of networking, educational seminars, behind-the-scenes tours and exhibits. “IAAPA is at work for its members around the world, 365 days a year,” said Morey.
The Trade Show Floor offered attendees the best opportunity to explore everything new and exciting in the attractions market. Exhibitors filled the 6,000 square space and included amusement and theme park rides, motion simulators, ziplines, architectural and design services, food and beverage items, waterslides and video games.
According to latest AECOM report North America is listed as the largest amusement/theme park market with 131.5 million visits to the continent’s 20 largest parks in 2012, up by 3.6 percent from 2011. Asia’s amusement/theme park market continues to grow rapidly, achieving 108.7 million visits to its 20 largest parks in 2012, up 5.8 percent from 2011.
Asia continues to be a growing market within the industry and Morey described the growth of Asia’s attractions industry as amazing, pointing to the number of projects on the horizon such as Shanghai Disney Resort and Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Shuhai, China. He added that attractions must be “innovative and creative” when faced with challenges.
The future of Morey’s 2013 chairmanship will include additional visits to various theme parks and attractions around the world, including a trip in September to attend the Euro Attractions Show being held in Paris. Morey’s Piers is currently gearing up for the June 24-27 IAAPA Board of Directors meeting being held in Wildwood, NJ. This event will bring top industry executives from around the world to experience the New Jersey shore.
