A seashore town, Asbury Park is located in central New Jersey. A swinging town in the 1920’s, Asbury was a destination resort built by architect Warren Whitney of New York. The Paramount Theatre, Convention Hall, Berkeley-Carteret Hotel, Casino and amusement park attracted throngs of vacationers, eager to partake in shopping and entertainment.
Through the Great Depression, World War II and modern developments such as Eatontown Mall and Six Flags Great Adventure, Asbury Park unfortunately lost it’s charm. That is, until the Stone Pony opened its doors in 1974. With legendary performances from Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Joan Jett, to name a few, Asbury Park became a rock ‘n’ roll mecca.
Over time, the buzz became stagnant and a safe haven for bands to jam out. Recently, the city’s been under a rebirth and fantastic restaurants, bars, art galleries and clean beaches are popping up all over town. From beach days and Tiki Bar to nights at Watermark and Langosta Lounge or Plan B, I had a fabulous summer with my close friends and family. While I may be a New Yorker, I am a Jersey girl at heart and love spending my summers in this hot spot.
