NJ Zombie Walk in Asbury Park attempts a Guinness Book World Record for the largest gathering of zombies in history

Saturday, October 30th, you’re summoned to rise up from the grave with thousands of zombies to wreck havoc on the city of the living. Shamble around town for an incredible line-up of concerts, contests, parties, movies, film makers, horror artists and events all day long. It’s free to the public, open to all ages and for one day only!

The 3rd Annual NJ Zombie Walk in Asbury Park will try to be the largest gathering of zombies in history. The Guinness Book of World Records will be there for the attempt of breaking the current record set in Seattle. The number to beat is 4,200; so they need your help spreading the infection to your family, friends, school, office, etc.

The zombie walk is the brainchild of Jason Meehan, who got the idea after seeing photos from a similar event in Atlanta. Together with Christina Terry he picked Asbury Park as a potential location for the first New Jersey zombie walk. Why Asbury Park? It inspired Jason due to “the deconstructed state of much of the architecture – the decay felt like being in a post-zombie-apocalpyse town; but with an overwhelming sense that the city was in it’s own way rising back from the dead, just like a zombie”. The first event took place in October 2008, and Jason and Christina took care of everything at that time. They made up posters and stickers, a MySpace page to spread the word online, and 450 zombies came out. A year later the event spread like a virus (pun intended) and the total was over 1,500. This time he expects close to 5,000. “We’ve got a Guinness World Record to break!”
